New Mexico Medicaid: Retroactive GRT reimbursements

Since Jan. 1, 2026, New Mexico Senate Bill 249 has required managed care organizations to reimburse Medicaid health care providers for gross receipt taxes (GRT). Exceptions to this requirement are non-profit providers and claim reimbursements for pharmaceuticals, durable medical equipment and certain non-taxable medical codes.

Starting in October, providers whose claims were underpaid will begin to receive retroactive GRT reimbursements for eligible services dating back to Jan. 1, 2026. No action is required from you to initiate payment.
